What Are Cut Resistant Gloves Made Of?
We recently received a call from a customer who wanted to thank us for supplying them with gloves that provided cut protection.
They realized how important these gloves are while removing steel strapping from a pallet. Without cut resistant gloves, the task almost certainly would have led them to cut their hands on the steel’s sharp edge.
The customer was grateful, but also curious.
“What are these gloves made of?” they asked. “They’re light and flexible and don’t feel strong, but they offered a lot of protection. They’re amazing!”
The gloves in question were made from Dyneema® yarn, but they aren’t the only cut resistant gloves out there. Here are a few of our favorite styles and materials:
HPPE Gloves
HPPE stands for “ high performance polyethylene gloves,” made from knitted materials woven with polyethylene fibers. They are extremely comfortable and breathable, and have ANSI cut levels ranging from 2 through 5.
Less expensive than the gloves referenced above, they are a great option for companies seeking a strong, durable glove at a cost-effective price.

Kevlar
You’ve probably heard of Kevlar, a robust, heat-resistant synthetic fiber that’s five times stronger than steel. In addition to gloves, you’ll find Kevlar acting as a protective material in arm sleeves, jackets, chaps and other articles of clothing. Although Kevlar is usually identified by its yellow color, we also carry black Kevlar.

Dyneema
Strong and light-weight, Dyneema is one of the best high-end cut resistant materials on the market. Fifteen times stronger than steel and 40 percent lighter than aramid fibers such as Kevlar, Dyneema is one of a kind. This material can be laundered, which helps you re-use gloves when they get dirty.
Dyneema cut resistant gloves are also available with various coatings on either the front or back to provide added grip and hand protection.
Alycore
Alycore is one of the stronger materials available, with a high ANSI cut and puncture resistance rating. Made from a stainless steel alloy metal mesh found in many gloves styles – including multitask and drivers’ gloves – Alycore is flexible, lightweight and washable.

When it comes to cut resistant gloves, there is no one size that fits all. The type of protection you need depends on the application. While all the materials we’ve mentioned here sound great, the only way to judge which one works for your task is to try them out.
