The Importance of Arm Protection
The Importance of Arm Protection
Typically on job sites we outfit our employees with the basics. Safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, hard hats, breathable summer clothing and the right shoes are some of the “must have” items on shop floors.
With major arteries and blood veins running throughout the forearm, protecting this area of the body is equally as important as ones hands, yet an overlooked aspect of safety. As with safety gloves, different environments require different types of protection. By having different arm sleeves available, you can provide each employee with the perfect fit and protection for their arms.
Y-pers has a variety of arm sleeves available – from 100% Cotton to coated to cut resistance.
The Importance of Protection Sleeves
Safety is the number one priority in any factory, job site or work environment. If you are already using protection gloves and other safety supplies, there is still a risk for injury during particular tasks.
If you are doing HVAC work, do you have to reach into ceiling vents or around objects? If you are in a warehouse, do you have to reach behind objects to grab items? These types of conditions typically have sharp corners or jagged edges. Any task that has a risk for injury on your hands probably has a risk for injury on your forearms as well.

Steps in Identifying the Right Sleeves
1) Identify the Hazard – Let us come out to your work site or explain to us what you are working with and we will come up with a recommend solution. As always we will send a sample sleeve for you to try prior to any orders! Are you trying to prevent against cuts, abrasions and scrapes? Then you are looking for a high level cut protection sleeve. Are you dealing with high heat? Then you want a heat protection sleeve. Are you dealing with dirt and grime and general wear and tear? Then you want a cotton sleeve.
2) Sample the Sleeves – Comfort and safety go hand in hand. Being comfortable on the job while completing a particular task will make employees more effective. You have to find out the right sleeve for the job by sampling. We have different sleeves available in different fabrics, including the following:
- Cotton – General purpose sleeves that provide light protection
- Kevlar – First and most popular sleeve, great for heavy duty applications and light heat
- Dyneema – Light Weight and super strong (15x stronger than steel)
- Steelcore – Two strangs of stainless steel wrap with a softer nylon yard. Great cut resistance and allows airflow, FDA approved
- Hero – Kevlar, Stainless Steel and Nylon Fiber Blend makes for a high performance cut resistance level
3) Correct Sizing – To prevent the sleeve from rolling up on the arm, all arm sleeves are available with a thumb slot to make sure the sleeve stays firmly in place. Additionally, sleeves come in various lengths – from 10” up to 22” – so finding the right size and fit is important.
